Republican House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes, has done a bang-up job of undermining the very investigation he is supposed to be overseeing into Russian Interference in the US elections last year. He is steadfastly discrediting and obstructing the investigation any way he can with the assistance of other House Republicans. He has gone as far as suggesting the entire probe by the FBI was based on the not-fully-verified-yet Steele Dossier, which would theoretically imply their entire investigation is flawed.
“It may seem odd that Republicans believe going after the Steele memos, which included salacious allegations about Trump, is a way to help the president. But they appear to have two goals: to suggest the Steele memos were actually cooked up by the Russian government—and thus are proof that Moscow did not favor Trump in 2016—and to undercut the FBI’s Russia investigation by linking its origins to the Steele memos.”
The opening of two new House investigations into Hillary Clinton and the Obama Administration shall also serve to disrupt and derail any honest, diligent efforts that may remain on the Russian investigation as well as distract Americans from the relevant, time-sensitive nature of that investigation.
“These investigations were initiated on a partisan basis, and will shed no light on Russia’s interference in the 2016 election, but then again they are not intended to do so.,” said Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee. “They are designed to distract attention and pursue the President’s preferred goal – attacking Clinton and Obama.”
Today, with the Washington Post report that the Steele Dossier was in fact, as presumed, paid for in effect by the Clinton campaign and the DNC in the person of Marc E. Elias, a lawyer representing them, you can go ahead and kiss any semblance of the Republican House Committees actually trying to pretend to do their job goodbye. It is known that a Republican Presidential hopeful originally paid for this investigative background information on Trump up until about April of 2016, but stopped funding the research once he/she was no longer viable (we don’t know who that person is yet, but I’m gonna go ahead and guess Bush.)
Now that the name “Clinton” can be stamped to the top of the Steele Dossier, We should fully expect over the next couple of months a concerted effort by the Trump Administration, the House investigating committees, and Fox News to repeatedly draw flimsy, connect-the-dot conspiracy theories regarding Clinton and Russian interference. All in an attempt to obfuscate the facts and misdirect public attention.
At the least, it might be entertaining. Certainly things are about to become way more irritating and frustrating. Keep a stiff upper lip, we still have Bob Mueller and the Senate investigation; where people are actually doing their job. We also have the Republican party imploding before our very eyes. So…they may want to wake up and start dealing with reality instead of waiting for midterms like that’s gonna be some kind of party savior, HA.

This narrative is going to be trumpeted for months. Dear lord.
